Are You Considering Buying FCS Surfboard Fins05.04.10

Fin Control System (FCS) surf fins have revolutionized innovation in the surf industry with the number and size of fins. They are a giant jump forward from the old surf fin box and screw system and way beyond glassed-on surfboard fins. The FCS fins company have several models of surfboard fins, each providing you with a one of a kind surf. As they can be removed these fins can be swapped for different surf conditions or completely removed. In addition, your fins can be taken out for travel to avoid them from breaking off. There are glassed in fin plugs for each surf fin and it is tightened with a fin key. FCS surf fins are composite molded fins that flex and are extremely durable.

FCS is not only the strongest removable surf fin system but it is also the lightest. The H-pattern design holds the surfboard fin plug to the deck as well as surfboard bottom and the P2 fin plug, made with poly carbonate polymer plastic and coupled with the H-pattern installation has the best system strength. A few things to think about before choosing the ideal FCS surf fin. A heavy surfer needs a fin with more area for hold in the face of a wave. Also if a person is a strong surfer they will need a fin with tons of area than usual. You can greatly take your surfing to a higher level by changing your surfboard fins.

Surfboards with plenty of rail and deep channels in the tail require less surf fin area. For a tiny board in big waves, choose big fins with greater sweep. Also, a small surfboard fin with reduced sweep and more flex will loosen a stiff surfboard and if the surfboard is too loose a bigger, stiffer fin will give you more drive. FCS provides test drives to feel the difference in the performance of their different surfboard fins models. There are surf shops around the world that offer these FCS fin test drives and can be found online.

Since they rule the surf fins industry, FCS has stretched to manufacturing surf accessories including leashes, luggage, boardbags, booties and gloves as well as travel wallets, caps, key holders, wet bags, fin wallets and much more. FCS have great looking luggage and backpacks for surfing trips or for going to work and products designed for female surfers.

Fin Control System also want to help the planet without sacrificing performance, so FCS has manufacturered a Green Flex surfboard fin that is produced from 50% postconsumer waste that would have found its way into a land fill. Seeking to always reduce their environmental footprint, FCS has set goals and criteria for designing their products. The design, sustainable sourcing, ethical supply chains along with carbon management are all essential to saving our oceans and earth. When you purchase any of FCS’ surf fins, you are doing your part to help save our earth.

For the perfect feeling surfboard, with some of the best fins out there, FCS surfboard fins are the surf fins to choose.

Davids Shopping Suggestions To Grasp When Purchasing Surf Boards for Sale01.01.10

The surfboard is the essential piece of surfing equipment. Without it, you are not surfin’. The modern surfboard has come some distance in style and construction as the Hawaiians started surfing on wood planks. The deck is the top side of surfboards and is where the surfer stands to surf plus lays to paddle. Wax is applied to the top surface for grip. Often surfers can use a traction pad for additional grip. If you look at the deck of a surfboard, you’ll usually see a slight camber from the rail to the center then back to the rail. This is called as a domed deck and helps promote easy rail-to-rail movements. The different type of deck is the flat deck — no prizes for guessing what this sort resembles.

The nose of the surfboard sits out of the water. On shortboards, guns, plus fish, the nose is often pointed, plus on funboards / minimals and longboards, the nose is usually rounded. However, this can be by no means that set in stone. Some surfers use a surfboard nose guard that may guard the surfboard from dings plus additionally protect the surfer from a good poke from a disgruntled board!

Become A Better Surfer By Improving These Muscle Groups12.24.09

I think most people don’t realise just how strenuous surfing can be and fitness needed to be a great surfer. You only have to try it once and be in the water for half an hour to feel a great amount of respect for the surfers who go out and ride the waves every day of their lives. Your muscles are worked incredibly hard as you take the board into the surfing launch zone and when riding a lot of energy is expended also. So if you are going to want to get signed by the likes of Roxy, Rip Curl and Animal Clothing you’re going to have build those muscles. So which muscle groups have the greatest demand put on them and so need more training?

Deltoids – These in simple terms are yout shoulder muscles and take a big hit during a surf session. When you are lying flat on the board and rotating your arms repeatedly to paddle out, your deltoid group is providing around 70% of the power. If you imagine you are paddling out 20 times or so in a session, those muscles better be ready

Trapezius
– These muscles make up those of the upper back and the neck. They are also involved with the surfboards forward movement when you are paddling out, but are called into action more when you are ‘popping’ up on the board. Explosive strength is needed in this action so with this in mind, the work you do in the gym should be with high weights and at a fast pace

Abs and core muscles
– Your stabilising muscles need to be in peak condition otherwise you might as well just not get in the water. When popping up and riding the board, it is all very well having balance but you need conditioned abs and core muscles to make the necessary balance adjustments. These muscles need to have high priority in your training regime as their use is required during every surfing element. Use a core-stability ball or Pilates techniques to build these up.

Cardiovascular fitness should also be included in your surf training and there are plenty of second hand bikes that you can pick up and use to ride to the beach to help with this

Finally Surfing and Snowboarding Have Come Together11.22.09

People who perform extreme sports are not your normal sports participants. They are some of the most creative sports men and women around, and are constantly on the look out for the next big idea. Both surfing and snowboarding, although popular, are a little old now in some people’s eyes and could do with updating. It is no surprise then that one avid extreme sports fan gave in to curiosity and tried riding down the mountain side on his customised surfboard…and succeeded?

The sport of snow surfing is thought to have first been conceived in New Zealand when a visiting Australian surfer decided to see if he could ride his board on the white stuff. Since then, crazy folk all over the world have been talking up this new sport. Enthusiasts say that it requires a huge amount of skill and confidence. Unlike snowboards, riders do not have any bindings to attach themselves to the board, but instead rely on aggressive carving and the use of the hands to ensure that the board stays under their feet. The issue of slowing the board down and stopping had caused some problems as well, but flat run-off areas where people can glide to a stop can be found in many resorts now.

As with all emerging extreme sports, sponsors and industry brands have been paying close attention to see if it is worth their while getting involved. Apparently both Rip Curl and Burton have shown interest in the sport and have been following the most promising individuals. However, as the sport is still so new, it is likely to be a little while before formal events start taking place and stars are given the publicity that some of the more mainstream sport professionals receive. Despite this, the sport is growing at a rapid rate and you might find someone hanging ten at your local ski resort before you know it.

How Surfing & Snowboarding Stack Up Against Each Other11.13.09

When it comes to popular extreme sports, snowboarding and surfing are right up their at the top of the list. Despite the fact these two sports couldn’t be further away from each other in terms of climate needed and location, a lot of people still enjoy taking part in both sports. But how much of the skills and fitness that are needed for one sport transferable to the other? Let us take a look at three important elements that these sports require.

Upper Body Strength. As any surfer will tell you, if you haven’t got great upper body fitness, there is not much point even getting in the water. You need endurance in order to repetitively paddle surfboards out to see against breaking waves, and power is need in the ‘pop-up’ phase of getting upright on the board when you have caught a wave. In comparison, snowboarding does not require anywhere near the upper body condition as surfing, as snowboarding is mainly a sport powered by the legs and torso

Timing. If you want to perform either of these sports well, then good timing is a must. In snowboarding it is vital to time your turns perfectly and even more important when doing jumps as lining up for the correct entry to the kicker can mean the difference between a clean landing and a face full of snow. Surfing also requires perfect timing and instincts not least when catching a wave when you have to paddle, pop-up, drop in and turn just at the right times.

Lower Body Strength & Agility. The legs play a very important part in both snowboarding and surfing, but it’s snowboarding that requires the most from the lower limbs. Snowboards require great skill and agility to turn and carve, and if your leg muscles are not in good condition you will simply not be able to ride well. Don’t for one minute think though that surfing does not require you to have good lower body fitness and flexibility, because it certainly does.

New Research Tells Why Surfers Are So Confident09.20.09

We have all seen those surfer types, strutting their stuff on the beach and making everything they do look effortless. I’m sure you’ve asked yourself if it’s something in the water that gives them their confidence or could it be those long surfboards that inflate their self-esteem? Well now surfing can claim the title of the most confidence enhancing sport of all, after new research from Exeter University in England proves it categorically.

Before we examine the reasons why surfing is so good for your ego, let’s explain just how the research was conducted. 20 sports were tested overall and around 200 people took part who did not take part in regular sport themselves. An industry-standard written confidence test was filled out by each person that took part, who then participated in one of the sports for a duration of three month, before filling in the test once more after the three months was up. The conclusion from the study was that among all the sports, the participants who had been riding the waves for 3 months showed the highest increases in their confidence test scores.

The Masters students who conducted the research have suggested that there are many factors to surfing which promotes confidence. To start with it is a sport that forces participants to take on mother nature, who is an adversary not often faced in other sports. Steve Underfield of the Sports and Exercise Sciences Departments states that gaining control of outdoor surroundings is very empowering and gives people the feeling that they can look after themselves even somewhere traditionally outside of their comfort zone. Additionally, due the very physical nature of surfing, participants usually dramatically improve the way they feel and look, which naturally boosts their confidence. Surfers often get a good tan from all their time outside and this again makes them look healthier. Lastly, there is a perceived ‘coolness’ around the surfing culture and people easily become moulded to the laid back and confident way of life that goes hand in hand with the sport.

Runner up in the list of most confidence building sports was cycling, so if you’re in need of an ego boost grab your surfboards or mountain bikes, get outside, and start training today
